About
Bushy Park, the second largest of Londonโs Royal Parks, is a wonderful dog-friendly destination filled with wide-open spaces, ancient woodlands, and scenic ponds. Located near Hampton Court Palace, this 1,100-acre park offers the perfect setting for a leisurely walk, playful run, or relaxing afternoon with your dog.
Dog Access and Rules
Dogs are welcome in most areas of Bushy Park, and there are large sections where they can roam off-lead. However, like Richmond Park, Bushy Park is home to herds of deer, so during rutting (September to November) and birthing season (May to July), keeping your dog on a lead is essential to avoid disturbing the deer. Always check for signage to see if any specific areas have restrictions and ensure your dog is under control, especially near the deer.
Things To See & Do
Bushy Park is in Southwest London, near Hampton Court Palace and Teddington. Its history dates back to the 16th century when it was used as a royal hunting ground.
Bushy Park offers a variety of activities for dogs. The vast open spaces are perfect for a game of fetch or letting your dog explore off-lead. The Woodland and Water Gardens and the Longford River provide beautiful paths to wander along. You also have the 10K perimeter trail, which offers a mix of pavement and tracks.
Bushy Park is a favourite for local dog walkers, so itโs also a great opportunity for your dog to socialise and make new friends.
Access and Facilities
Bushy Park is easily accessible. The nearest train stations are Hampton Court, Teddington, and Hampton, all a short walk from the park. Several bus routes also pass close to the parkโs entrances. If youโre driving, car parks are at Coleshill Road Gate, Pheasantry Cafe, Diana Fountain, and Hampton Court Green, with additional weekend parking via Clapperstile Gate.
Bushy Park has some refreshment kiosks throughout the park, and the Pheasantry Cafรฉ has a dog-friendly outdoor seating area where you can enjoy a snack or coffee with your dog. Several water fountains are throughout the park, and youโll find plenty of benches to rest during your walk.
