Things To See & Do
On the Lincolnshire coast, Humberston Fitties Beach lies at the edge of Cleethorpes, easily accessible yet tucked away from the busier tourist areas. The beach is often called Fitties Beach, where “Fitties” derives from a local term meaning “salt marshes”. The surrounding village is known for its unique holiday chalets, made from whatever was available, like old railway carriages, which add to the beach’s quirky and nostalgic charm.
This dog-friendly beach is backed by dunes and a path that runs the entire length of the beach along the top of the sea defence. These provide the perfect backdrop for a dog walk or an energetic game of fetch.
At the south end of the beach is Tetney Marsh Nature Reserve, which has a selection of paths running through the marshes and ponds. Your dogs must be on a lead while in the reserve.
Looking out into the estuary, you will see two sand forts, built initially during WWI but then used during WWII to protect shipping entering and leaving the Humber Estuary. The fort furthest out is Bull Sand Fort, and the closer one is Haile Sand Fort.
