About
Groudle Glen is a deep, rocky, wooded glen leading down to a beach in the bay. You have a stream that runs down through Groudle Glen and enters the sea through the beach. You will see some mining heritage in the water wheel, known as “Little Isabella”, which is still visible.
You don’t have to walk this one as the Manx Electric Railway connects with the Groudle Glen Railway, which runs to its station at Groudle Bay; the railway operates a limited seasonal timetable. Dogs are also allowed on the railway.
Groudle Beach is a pebble beach in a small horseshoe-shaped bay.
There are limited facilities, with car parking along the winding road down to the bay, but be careful not to park in resident parking areas. The Sea Lion Rocks Tea Rooms at the station offer a selection of refreshments, including hot and cold drinks, sandwiches, cakes and snacks, which can be enjoyed inside our tea rooms or outside on the cliff-top patio.
The glen was a tourist attraction in Victorian times with a bandstand, railway and zoo, although you only have the railway operating today. The last station on the railway is at Sea Lion Rocks a name surviving from the days of the zoo.
