About
Hodgemoor Woods is a 250-acre woodland between Beaconsfield and Chalfont St. Giles in Buckinghamshire. Not massive, but big enough for a good stroll without feeling lost in the wilderness. Plenty of space to roam and a mix of trails.
Dog Access and Rules
Dogs are welcome off-lead, and plenty of others are making the most of it. Just be mindful of the occasional horse rider and cyclist as it is a multi-use location.
Things To See & Do
One of the best things about Hodgemoor Woods is that it feels like a proper woodland, not just some trees planted in a neat grid. You’ve got old oaks, beech trees, and paths that twist about like they were made by people who had no real plan. In the spring, there’s a decent spread of bluebells.
The best part is the variety of paths and riding trails. Some are surfaced and well-trodden, good for a relaxed wander. Others are a bit wilder, perfect for dogs who like to charge through undergrowth like they’re on a mission.
Horses use some of the tracks, and if your dog is the sort to lose their mind at the sight of one, it’s good to keep an ear out. There’s also the occasional cyclist who seems to come out of nowhere. Not loads of them, but just enough that you don’t want to be daydreaming in the middle of the path.
Access and Facilities
Hodgemoor Woods is just outside Chalfont St. Giles, and the best place to park is at the small car park off Bottrells Lane. It’s not huge, so if you turn up at a busy time, you might have to park further down the lane.
There are no toilets, cafes, or fancy restaurants; you just have woods. Chalfont St. Giles has a few dog-friendly pubs if you want a drink or food after your walk.
If you’re coming by public transport, the nearest train station is Seer Green & Jordans, but it’s a bit of a trek. Better to drive if you can.
