About
Peveril Castle sits high on a rocky hilltop above Castleton, overlooking Cave Dale. The paths wind upwards from the village, and when you reach the top, the views reach out in every direction: Mam Tor, the Great Ridge, and the stone cottages of Castleton below.
Visiting Peveril Castle with your dog is a lovely way to share a bit of adventure. Inside the castle grounds, you’re free to wander at your own pace. The ruins have a rugged charm, with their strategic position high above the Dale below and sections of wall that hint at what once stood here.
Dog Access and Rules
Dogs are allowed but must be kept on a lead.
Access and Facilities
You have no dedicated parking and so will need to park in Castleton, with the castle sitting on the south side of Castleton, just a 5-minute walk from the centre.
The visitor centre has information, a shop and toilets, but is located at the base of the hill. Once you start your walk, there are no further facilities.
