Things To See & Do
The only example in the UK of a castle of this kind. It is doubly unusual to have a filled moat and grass ramparts. Whilst the castle is now a ruin, it is still in fairly good condition, however it is worth noting that it does not have a roof. Access to the castle and museum is ticketed, however it is free to wander the surrounding woodland and nature reserve.
Access and Facilities
There is ample parking and the walk is fairly level along a gravelled path. The walk to the castle entrance is largely across grass and is only partially patched. There are no steps to the cafe. There are toilets on site and camping nearby.
