About
The Lion Inn in Winchcombe is a dog-friendly coaching inn that makes an excellent base or stop-off for Cotswold walks. Walkers and their dogs are common here, so muddy paws and walking boots feel normal rather than out of place.
The menu offers traditional pub food made with seasonal, locally sourced ingredients, and it is known for its Sunday roasts, as well as vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options.
The inn also has rooms, making it suitable for a Cotswolds weekend break.
Dog Access and Rules
Dogs are warmly welcomed throughout the pub, with specific dog-friendly spaces for eating and drinking, including outdoor seating in the garden. Fresh water bowls and complimentary dog treats are available.
The Lion Inn offers en-suite rooms above the pub, and some overlook the courtyard or inner areas, which can be helpful if you have a dog that reacts to street noise. You should inform at the time of booking that you are travelling with a dog.
Things To See & Do
Winchcombe is recognised as a walkers’ town, with several classic Cotswold routes accessible straight from the front door. Popular options include the Winchcombe and Sudeley Castle circular (around 5–6 miles, moderate, with some hills and varying terrain), and stretches of the Cotswold Way that run nearby.
Access and Facilities
The Lion Inn sits on North Street in the centre of Winchcombe, so it is easy to combine with exploring the shops and nearby attractions. You have no dedicated car park, but there is a small one on Bull Lane behind the inn, and spaces on the roads around.
