Round to the west into the harbour, you have Old Portsmouth Beach, a small pebbly beach backed by high sea walls. The beach is on the edge of an area called ‘The Hotwalls’, Grade I listed Point Battery and Barracks, a defensive position protecting the harbour entrance.

Portsmouth’s beaches are easy to access, whether you’re travelling by car, public transport, or on foot. There is ample parking near Southsea Beach.
For those using public transport, Portsmouth & Southsea station is the nearest mainline railway station. Frequent buses take you directly to Southsea and Eastney beaches.
Portsmouth’s seafront is well-equipped with facilities to ensure a comfortable visit. Along Southsea Beach, you’ll find numerous cafes, restaurants, and ice cream stalls, many offering outdoor seating areas where dogs are welcome. There are public toilets and bins for dog waste conveniently located along the promenade, making it easy to keep the area clean.
Eastney Beach, while quieter, still provides access to basic facilities like nearby toilets. However, you’ll find fewer amenities here compared to the bustling Southsea area. Southsea and Eastney offer dog-friendly accommodation, from guesthouses to self-catering cottages, for those looking to stay close to the beach.
