The Three Horseshoes

The Three Horseshoes is located on the canal at Winkwell, just outside Hemel Hempstead. Dogs are allowed in the bar area and canal-side terrace.

This is a nice stretch of the Grand Union Canal as you are in the countryside between the towns of Hemel Hempstead and Berkhamsted with fields and the odd boat yard. The must-see feature at Winkwell is the swing bridge over the canal, one of only a few remaining on the canal. This is now automated but would have originally been a manual task to open and close.
