About
If you’re looking for a dog-friendly seaside escape in Kent, The Marine Hotel in Whitstable has a lot going for it.
Set on Marine Parade overlooking the sea at Tankerton, the hotel is ideally placed for enjoying the coast on foot. You can step outside and immediately find yourself beside the shoreline, with the colourful streets and harbour of Whitstable only a pleasant walk away.
For us dog owners, that’s exactly the sort of location that makes a difference.
There’s no need to jump in the car every time you want to take your dog for a walk. You can enjoy the seafront, explore Tankerton, walk towards Whitstable and then return to the hotel for a drink or meal overlooking the water.
The Marine also has a limited number of dog-friendly rooms, and dogs are welcome in selected areas of the hotel.
Dog Access and Rules
The Marine welcomes dogs but only in designated dog-friendly rooms, so you’ll need to mention that you’re bringing a dog when you book.
The hotel charges an additional fee per dog, per night.
Due to the limited number of rooms, I’d recommend booking early if you’re travelling on weekends, during school holidays, or in the summer months.
Dogs aren’t permitted in the hotel’s main restaurant, but the hotel’s dog policy allows dogs to join you in the bar, and they are also welcome on the terrace all year round, weather permitting.
Things To See & Do
You’re staying on the edge of Tankerton, with the coast immediately outside.
This gives you plenty of walking options without needing to drive.
Tankerton Beach
The shoreline in front of the hotel is ideal for a morning or evening stroll.
The character changes with the tide, so it’s worth checking the tide times if you’re hoping for a longer beach walk.
Tankerton Slopes
The grassy slopes beside the coast provide another lovely place to walk your dog while enjoying the sea views.
Whitstable Harbour
From The Marine, you can follow the coast towards Whitstable and eventually reach the harbour.
It’s a lovely walk when you want to combine exercise with a bit of sightseeing.
Whitstable Town
Continue towards the town centre, and you’ll find independent shops, cafes, restaurants and the famous harbour.
Access and Facilities
The Marine has free private parking for residents, which is a big advantage in Whitstable and Tankerton.
If you’re visiting during a busy weekend or summer holiday, having parking at the hotel means you can arrive, leave the car and explore on foot.
The hotel also has EV charging facilities.
