About
Half Moon Bay, also known as Heysham sands, is a sandy, dog-friendly beach with grass-covered dunes and low cliffs. At low tide, you have a great expanse of flat sand and some rockpools.
At low tide, you can also visit the remains of the cargo frigate Vanadis, which went on the sandbank in 1903 and was pounded by the raging sea and damaged by gale-force winds.
The small town of Heysham backs the beach, and to the south, a harbour serving passenger ferries to Douglas (Isle of Man) and Belfast (Northern Ireland).
Facilities at the beach include parking, a dog-friendly cafe, a grass area, and easy access to facilities within Heysham itself.
