About
Burrough Hill Country Park is a place that feels like it hasn’t changed in centuries. There’s an Iron Age hillfort at the top, with cracking views if you can walk up there. It’s a bit out of the way, about six miles from Melton Mowbray, but if you and your dog like a proper countryside stomp, it’s worth the drive.
Dog Access and Rules
Dogs are welcome all over the park, but it is best to keep them on a lead in busy areas and near livestock. This is a rural location, so bins aren’t everywhere, so bring a bag and be ready to carry it for a bit.
Things To See & Do
The park covers 25 hectares, with the hill fort being the highest point at 210 metres (690 feet).
The main attraction here is the hillfort. It’s a bit of a climb, but once you’re up there, the views stretch for miles over fields and villages. If your dog enjoys a good run, the open spaces are ideal. The woodland trails at the bottom of the hill are a bit more sheltered.
It’s an excellent spot for a picnic in the summer, but don’t expect a cafe or anything, and you will need to bring your sandwiches and snacks.
Access and Facilities
Getting there is easy enough by car with a small car park. Public transport isn’t an option unless you fancy a long walk from the nearest village.
The car park has a toilet block and a few picnic benches, although you maybe lucky with an ice cream van.
