About
Melton Country Park is on the edge of Melton Mowbray, so if you’ve had your fill of pork pies and need to walk it off, this is the spot. The park is 140 acres of open space and paths just a 10-minute walk from the town centre.
Dog Access and Rules
Dogs are welcome all over the park, and there’s plenty of space to let them off the lead. If yours is the type to ignore you entirely and leg it after a squirrel, keeping them close, especially near the car park or around the more popular paths, is best.
There are a couple of dog agility trails, which provide great exercise for your dog and a fun and engaging way to try out a variety of obstacles.
Things To See & Do
The park has a bit of everything: woodlands, big open fields, lakes, proper footpaths, and a few benches if you fancy a break. A brook runs alongside part of the park, and some dogs love a paddle. There’s a little play area too, so if you’ve got kids in tow, they won’t be bored. Wildlife-wise, expect to see a few ducks, the odd rabbit, and plenty of birds (which, again, some dogs might find a bit too interesting).
You’re near Melton’s town centre if you fancy making a day of it. There’s a decent selection of dog-friendly pubs and cafes where you can grab a coffee or something more substantial.
Access and Facilities
Easy enough to find. If you’re driving, there’s a small car park near the main entrance where you have a visitor centre, toilets and a small cafe with outdoor seating. Public transport’s an option, but not the best, with Melton Mowbray train station being about a 20-minute walk away.
