About
Melton Mowbray Royal Mile Trail isn’t a dog walk but a good quick way to take in the history of Melton. In the middle of Melton Mowbray, it winds past historic sites, market squares, and a few decent spots to grab a bite. It’s not exactly a countryside ramble, but if your dog likes a steady walk with lots to look at, it’s well worth a go. Plus, it’s not every day you get to take your dog on a route that once saw royalty trotting through.
Dog Access and Rules
No strict rules here, just the usual “keep your dog under control” advice. Some parts of the trail are busier than others, especially near the market area, so a lead is a good idea unless your dog has impeccable manners. There are bins along the route, but not always where you need them, so be prepared to carry a full poo bag for a bit. Some pubs and cafes along the way are dog-friendly.
Things To See & Do
The trail takes you past some of Melton Mowbray’s best bits. As the name suggests, it is a mile long, so expect about 20 minutes with no stopping.
The Melton Mowbray Royal Mile Trail route links various buildings and sites of historical interest, particularly those associated with the town’s royal heritage.

For a comprehensive list and detailed information on all points of interest along the Royal Mile Trail, I recommend referring to the official trail guide (photo of mine above) or visiting the local tourist information center.
