About
If you’re after dog-friendly walks in Leicestershire, The Outwoods just to the south of Loughborough is a strong shout. The woods are ancient, designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest, proper old woodland.
The Outwoods is 110 acres, a decent-sized woodland, but not so massive that you’ll get lost forever. There are two marked trails: the first is 1.3 km (0.8 miles) long, and the slightly longer one is 3 km (1.8 miles). Both routes have a relatively steep climb and you’ll find all sorts, big rocks you can clamber up, tree stumps perfect for a sit down, and quiet clearings.

On drier days, the trails are good and springy, but on wetter days, you’ll return needing to hose off your boots outside, and possibly your dog too.
Dog Access and Rules
Dogs are welcome throughout the site and are generally allowed to be off-lead, provided they are under control. There are signs about picking up after your dog, and yeah, there are bins, but not loads, so you should bring a spare bag or two just in case.
Access and Facilities
Located just off Woodhouse Lane, not far from Nanpantan, and about 10 minutes from Loughborough. Parking’s paid, but cheap.
You have an information centre and a dog-friendly cafe at the car park.
