Dog Access and Rules
At Brancaster Beach, dogs are welcomed year-round, making it a go-to spot for dog owners. While there are no strict seasonal restrictions, some areas may be roped off between May and September to protect ground-nesting birds, so please be aware and keep dogs away from those sections.
Things To See & Do
Historically, the beach has connections to Brancaster Staithe, an ancient Roman settlement that once thrived nearby. Remnants of this history are still felt today, adding an extra layer of intrigue to your visit. You might even spot the wreck of the SS Vina, a ship stranded off the coast and visible at low tide that the RAF used as target practice in the lead-up to the D-Day landings.
With its vast expanse of sand, this beach is perfect for a stroll or an invigorating walk. Let your dog explore the dunes and chase the waves as you take in the fresh sea air. Beachcombing is popular, so while you search for shells, seaweed, or driftwood, your dog can sniff around for their discoveries.
The nearby salt marshes are a haven for birds, but keep your dog on a lead in these areas to avoid disturbing the wildlife.
Access and Facilities
Brancaster Beach is easy to reach. Take the A149 towards Brancaster from Hunstanton, and there’s a car park near the beach. Local buses run from Hunstanton, King’s Lynn and other coastal towns.
The beach is part of the Norfolk Coast Path, making it an excellent stop for those on foot.
Once you arrive, it’s a short walk over the dunes to the beach. Keep an eye on the tides if you’re planning a long visit, as parts of the beach can submerge at high tide.
Facilities include a car park, public toilets and a small kiosk serving ice cream, teas and coffee.
