About
Tolsta Beach is a sweeping crescent of fine sand flanked by rugged cliffs and rolling dunes. Its remote location gives it a wild, untouched charm that feels like stepping into another world. The beach is a fantastic spot for soaking up the raw beauty of the Hebrides, with dramatic views of the Atlantic Ocean and occasional glimpses of seals bobbing in the sea.
Dog Access and Rules
Tolsta Beach and its smaller neighbour, Garry Beach, are open to dogs year-round. There are no strict restrictions, but keeping your dog under control is always courteous, especially around animals or other visitors.
Things To See & Do
There’s no shortage of fun things to do with your dog at Tolsta Beach. The beach is vast, so there’s plenty of room for off-lead frolics without bothering anyone.
When visiting Tolsta Beach, you should also visit Garry Beach, which is just around a small headland. Above that, a notable Isle of Lewis landmark is the Bridge to Nowhere, a stone bridge on what was supposed to be a coast road. However, the road-building project was abandoned in the 1920s, so it now goes nowhere.
Access and Facilities
Tolsta Beach is easy to reach by car. There is a small parking area with toilets near the beach. The drive is a treat, with winding roads offering stunning views of the Hebridean landscape.
