About
St Andrew Church in Covehithe is tucked away in the tiny village of Covehithe, is part ruin, part working church, and completely unique.
The original church dates from the 14th century, although most of it is from the 15th century. During the Civil War, much of the stained glass was destroyed, and by the latter part of that century, the large church was too expensive for the parishioners to maintain, and they were given permission in 1672 to remove the roof and to build a much smaller church within it and attached to the original tower.
This small thatched church is still in use, while the tower and the ruins of the old church are maintained by the Churches Conservation Trust.
The church becomes a must-visit when planning a trip to Covehithe Beach.
Dog Access and Rules
This is a lovely rural spot to explore with your dog, as long as you’re respectful. Dogs are welcome in the grounds, but keep them on a lead, especially around the church structure and be mindful that it’s a peaceful, historic site.
Access and Facilities
No facilities at the church, but there are some parking spaces on the roadside just before the junction leading into the village.
