About
Achmelvich Bay Beach is a great white sandy beach sheltered by the rocky shoreline. Achmelvich Bay actually has a small collection of beaches amongst the rocky shoreline that can be accessed either from the cliffs or reached from the beach at low tide.
Achmelvich Beach is often referred to as one of the best beaches on the North Coast 500 (NC500) and is well worth a visit. Dogs are welcome but are advised to keep their pets under control at all times because sheep are often on the beach. Neither of the nearby camping and caravan sites allow dogs although you do have the dog-friendly Achmelvich Beach Youth Hostel.
The beach has toilets and a car park reached by navigating a single-tracked road. No other amenities although Achmelvich Bay has caravan and camping parks and the Achmelvich Beach Youth Hostel. If you need to stock up on essentials then Lochinver is just under 5km away.
On the hill above the beach, you have a small abandoned castle called Hermit’s Castle which was built in the 1950s and at a distance can be mistaken for a pill-box.
