About
Nairn is an ancient fishing port and market town to the east of Inverness, the capital of the Scottish Highlands. Visiting Nairn with your dog is a great choice, as Nairn boasts some of the most beautiful and dog-friendly beaches in the region.
Dog Access and Rules
Dogs are welcome on all Nairn beaches throughout the year, so you can visit any time without worrying about seasonal restrictions.
Culbin Sands is within the RSPB Nature Reserve, so dogs should be kept on leads from 1 April to mid-August, the ground-nesting season.
Things To See & Do
Nairn features five stunning beaches, in order of east to west we have:
- Culbin Sands is a beautiful, unspoilt sandy beach which can be accessed through the Culbin Forest Nature Reserve. Although it is in a remote location, the walk from the Culbin Forest car park or east beach is definitely worth it!
- Nairn East Beach is another beautiful sandy beach located just a short distance from Nairn Central Beach. It is known for its tranquility and picturesque views. It has great sand and dunes and direct access to the Culbin Forest Nature Reserve.
- Nairn Central Beach starts next to the harbour and extends westwards to the golf club, backed by low dunes and a promenade. It is the busiest beach of them all, with a promenade and places to eat.
- Nairn West Beach is a continuation of Central Beach, offering another long stretch of sandy shore, although with fewer facilities.
- Whiteness Sands, the “Secret Beach” extends from West Beach to Whiteness Point. It is a beautiful and peaceful expanse of sand, unspoilt and away from the crowds.
