About
Avebury is located in Wiltshire, not far from Marlborough, and is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site that includes Stonehenge. The site is famous for its massive Neolithic stone circle, which, at nearly 1,200 feet in diameter, is one of the largest in the world. Constructed over 4,000 years ago, Avebury offers an intriguing glimpse into England’s prehistoric past.
Dog Access and Rules
Dogs on a lead are welcome everywhere at Avebury, except the Circles Restaurant and Avebury Manor and Garden, where only assistance dogs are allowed.
Things To See & Do
Avebury provides ample space for your dog to explore. Take a leisurely walk around the stone circle with your dog. It’s a peaceful way to admire the ancient stones up close while enjoying the scenic Wiltshire countryside. The paths surrounding the stones are flat and accessible, perfect for a relaxed stroll.
Avebury Village is within the Circle of Stones, and much of it welcomes dog owners. The charming streets are lined with historic buildings, dog-friendly pubs, and small shops. It’s a lovely place to explore and walk around the monument.
Access and Facilities
Avebury is easily accessible by car and public transport. If you’re driving, there is a designated car park just a short walk from the stone circle. From larger towns like Swindon and Marlborough, Avebury is also accessible via bus, making it convenient for a day trip.
There are toilets, a National Trust shop and a visitor centre with information about the site’s history.
