The Route
- Ascent to Ivinghoe Beacon:
- From the car park, follow the well-marked trail leading up to the summit of Ivinghoe Beacon. The ascent is moderately steep but manageable, with well-trodden paths. You’ll be rewarded with stunning views over the Chiltern Hills as you climb. If you want a more gradual incline, you can take a path to the right, which also takes you to the top but is a bit easier.

- Ridge Walk:
- At the summit, take a moment to enjoy the breathtaking 360-degree views. On a clear day, you can see for miles, and an information plaque at the summit puts names to what you can see. This is an excellent spot for photos and a quick rest. You now head eastwards along the ridge. As you pass through a gate, you’ll need to be aware of roaming livestock, so keep your dog close and under control. At the end of this stretch, just before the next gate, we turn right and head down the hill.

- Descent and Field Path:
- A pleasant descent that takes you off the ridge into the valley and fields. As you reach the trees, swing to the right and walk along the flat field path. This is an excellent part for your dog to run off lead.

- Ascent to the Car Park:
- A gate marks the end of the field stretch. You are now faced with a steep path to the car park. If this may be too hard, you can head to the right and loop around on a more gradual incline.

This walk is a short 3km, but you have many opportunities to extend it. One option is to explore the Ashridge Estate, which is on the other side of the road from the car park.
