Dog Access and Rules
Culzean Castle and the Country Park welcome dogs, making it an ideal spot for those who love to explore. Dogs are allowed across most outdoor areas in the park, including the gardens, woodlands, and coastal paths, as long as they’re kept on a lead. However, due to the historic nature of the castle’s interiors, dogs are not permitted inside the castle itself.

Culzean Castle and Country Park is located near Maybole on the southwest coast of Scotland, overlooking the Firth of Clyde. Built in the late 18th century by architect Robert Adam, this castle was once the home of the Kennedy family, one of Scotland’s oldest clans. The castle is an architectural gem with elegant towers, grand rooms, and rich furnishings.
There’s no shortage of things to do with your dog; the surrounding 260 hectares of parkland feature a mix of formal gardens, rugged coastlines, and enchanting woodlands, offering a diverse landscape steeped in Scottish history.
With miles of dog-friendly trails, you’ll have plenty of scenic routes to explore together. Wander through the woodlands or take in panoramic views along the coastal paths. Head down to the park’s secluded beaches for a seaside stroll.

Access and Facilities
Culzean Castle and Country Park is located about 12 miles southwest of Ayr, easily accessible by car. The drive from Glasgow takes around an hour, while Edinburgh is about a two-hour drive. On-site parking is available. If you’re using public transport, you can take a train to Maybole and a short taxi ride from there.
The visitor centre includes a cafe with outdoor seating, a great place to grab a coffee or a snack after a walk.
