Greenan Castle is a picturesque ruin on a cliff top overlooking the Firth of Clyde in Ayrshire. Built in the 16th century, the castle offers spectacular views of the surrounding coastline and countryside. Although you see the remains of a fortified house, the location has been used for fortifications since the 1100s.
You can’t gain access but can explore the coast around Greenan Castle. The cliff-top location provides breathtaking views, and the ruins are fascinating. Keep your dog on a lead near the cliff edges to ensure their safety.
Extend your walk along the nearby coastal paths and Doonfoot Beach. The South Ayrshire coastline offers stunning views and a peaceful environment for a leisurely stroll, whilst the sandy shores are perfect for letting your dog run and play.
Access and Facilities
You can park at the beach car park on Greenan Road and follow the path to the beach. The castle stands to your left, and you can access the exterior via a path further past the castle that winds up the steep grassy slope.
There are no facilities, so you will need to be prepared.
