About
Nestled in the heart of Buckinghamshire, Princes Risborough offers some of the finest countryside dog walking routes in the Chiltern Hills. One is the circular walk around Brush Hill and Whiteleaf Hill Nature Reserves, starting and ending in the charming Market Place of Princes Risborough.
We start the walk at the historic Market Place in Princes Risborough. This square and high street are lined with some independent shops, many charity shops, and a couple of cafes and pubs, making it an ideal spot to grab a coffee or something to eat.
Your first stretch is along New Road, then turn left to Upper Icknield Way. After a few hundred metres, you will see the Ridgeway Path, which takes you to the Brush Hill Local Nature Reserve. As you walk through Brush Hill to the summit, you will reach the Whiteleaf Hill car park (alternative starting point), from where you can head into Whiteleaf Hill Nature Reserve.

The area is a mix of woodland and chalk grassland, and the length of this walk depends on how much exploring you want to do. It can be anything from 3 to 6 miles.
Some points of interest:
- The remains of WWI practice trenches, although today these look like zig-zagging ditches.
- Whiteleaf Cross is a chalk hill cross first mentioned in 1742, and although you can walk to it, it is best viewed from a distance.
- Neolithic barrow that sits above the cross.
- The Chequers, a country house retreat for the Prime Minister, can be seen from the hill.
What's On Offer
There are several parking options in Princes Risborough. Two pay-and-display car parks are available, one by the church and the other behind the Marks & Spencer shop. Free street parking is available, but restrictions make it too short to stay for decent walks. However, it is OK to make a quick visit to the town.
Alternatively, you can park at the Whiteleaf Hill car park (Peters Lane HP27 0LQ) and explore the area.
