About
Aberporth, nestled along the beautiful Ceredigion coast in West Wales, offers two sandy beaches separated by a headland that becomes one beach at low tide. The two beaches are Dolwen Beach to the west and Dyffryn Beach to the east. Aberporth Beaches offers a good choice for you and your dog, with a welcoming atmosphere, stunning scenery, and plenty of dog-friendly options.
Dog Access and Rules
Aberporth’s two beaches have slightly different dog policies. Dogs are welcome year-round on Dyffryn Beach, while restrictions apply to Dolwen Beach during the peak summer season (1 May to 30 September). These restrictions help balance the needs of all visitors. Look for clear signage to guide you and stick to the dog-friendly areas, ensuring a stress-free visit for everyone.
Things To See & Do
Aberporth is renowned for its sands, clear waters, and views over Cardigan Bay. The eastern Dyffryn Beach is quieter and dog-friendly all year, offering a relaxed setting where dogs can paddle and explore. The western Dolwen Beach, popular in summer, has seasonal restrictions, is perfect for families, and features safe swimming areas. Just be careful in the summer, as at low tide, the beaches join together, and you need to ensure your dog does not run over to the western side.
The surrounding village of Aberporth has a laid-back vibe. Stroll through charming streets and stop for a bite at one of the dog-friendly cafes or pubs.
The area is also part of the Ceredigion Coast Path, which offers excellent dog walking with dramatic views and the chance to spot dolphins, seals, and seabirds.
Access and Facilities
Aberporth is easily accessible via the A487, with clear signposts leading to the village. A car park is near the beaches, but it can fill up quickly during peak times. Regular bus services connect Aberporth to nearby towns such as Cardigan and Aberystwyth.
The village is an excellent stop along the Ceredigion Coast Path for those walking the trail.
