About
Bamaluz Beach is a small beach with a mix of big rocks and sand, situated just north of the harbour wall and below St Ives Museum. The beach is very tidal. At high tide, most of the sand disappears, leaving just rocks and a narrow strip. Plan your visit around low tide if your dog likes sand.
Dog Access and Rules
Bamaluz Beach is dog-friendly year-round, and it can get very busy. It is the main dog-friendly beach in St Ives, so it is typically used exclusively by dog owners. As dogs are running off-lead within a small area, we suggest that your dog needs to be sociable, and that a good recall really matters.
Things To See & Do
At low tide, Bamaluz opens up into a mix of sand and rock where dogs love to explore. This isn’t about distance. It’s about nose-to-ground sniffing and dips in and out of the water.
You can easily link a visit to Bamaluz with a short wander along the harbour pier or the nearby headland.
Access and Facilities
Several town car parks are close by, including Smeaton’s Pier and The Island. All involve a short walk, and when you arrive, you have a set of steep steps to take you down to the beach. You have many shops, cafes, pubs and takeaways within walking distance.
Summer afternoons can be hectic, especially at low tide. Early mornings and evenings feel calmer and more relaxed.
