About
Beacon Cove is a small, wild cove between Watergate Bay and Mawgan Porth, enclosed by high cliffs and open Atlantic views. It feels more isolated than the larger beaches near Newquay.
The beach is small and can almost disappear at high tide, but at low tide, you’ll find sandy strips with rocks and rock pools. The challenging access keeps it quiet, even during the summer months.
Dog walkers seeking lesser-known Cornish coast spots will find Beacon Cove peaceful and slightly adventurous.
Dog Access and Rules
Beacon Cove is dog-friendly year-round. Because the cove sits below steep cliffs and is reached by rough paths, keep dogs under control as you approach the beach. The terrain is tricky, especially after rain.
As always, when visiting Cornwall’s beaches with your dog:
- Keep dogs under close control near cliff edges.
- Bring waste bags and clean up after your dog.
- Be mindful of wildlife and nesting seabirds along the cliffs.
Things To See & Do
At low tide, the cove reveals sandy patches and rock pools perfect for exploring with your dog. Dogs will enjoy sniffing the rocks and wading through shallow pools.
The nearby South West Coast Path offers dramatic cliff walks with sea views. From here you can enjoy dramatic cliff-top walks towards Mawgan Porth Beach or head the other direction to the wide sandy shoreline at Watergate Bay.
These walks offer some of the best views on Cornwall’s north coast and make a great addition to any dog-friendly beach visit.
The quiet cove is good for watching seabirds and sometimes spotting dolphins or seals offshore.
Access and Facilities
Beacon Cove is a very natural, undeveloped beach, so you have no facilities. The nearest amenities are in nearby villages:
- Mawgan Porth – cafes, pubs, toilets and parking
- Watergate Bay – restaurants, beach cafes, surf facilities and parking
Access involves steep slopes or rough coastal paths, so sturdy footwear is recommended.
