About
Zennor Head is an Atlantic coast headland with spectacular views and a couple of coves to explore. You have three coves, but Pendour Cove is inaccessible. The other two, Veor Cove to the west and Porthzennor Cove to the east, can be accessed from the coast path and are dog-friendly, although limited sand is available at high tide.
The area is known for the Mermaid Legend, where it is said that if you sit above Pendour Cove at sunset, you might hear the singing of Matthew Trewella, of Zennor, who fell in love with a mermaid and followed her out to sea.
Dog Access and Rules
Dogs should be kept on a lead across much of the route, especially through fields and near cliff edges. Sheep graze these cliffs, and even calm dogs can cause stress, so leads are essential.
Things To See & Do
This classic out-and-back follows the South West Coast Path, roughly 4 miles return trip. It’s steady rather than steep, with constant sea views. Take it slow and allow time to stop. Your dog will thank you for the sniff breaks. The headland itself is the reward.
You can extend (6-7 miles) the route towards Gurnard’s Head before looping inland. This adds variety, some beaches, but also effort, so it suits fitter dogs and humans.
Access and Facilities
Small car park in Zennor village, spaces are limited, so arrive early. The Tinner’s Arms in Zennor is dog-friendly and well-earned after the walk.
No bins along the route. Carry waste out with you. There’s no freshwater once you leave the village, so bring enough for your dog.
