About
Grange-over-Sands, located on the edge of the beautiful Morecambe Bay in Cumbria, offers a charming seaside experience. While the area is known more for its picturesque promenade and stunning views rather than the traditional beach, it’s still a wonderful place to visit with your dog. Here’s what you can expect:
Dog Access and Rules
Although the beach is dog-friendly, we would say it is out of bounds as it is a saltmarsh with quicksands rather than a beach.
Dogs on leads are welcome on the promenade and in many surrounding green spaces.
Things To See & Do
Although you might have “sands” in the resort name, you will not find any. Grange-over-Sands was a popular Victorian and Edwardian resort within Morecambe Bay between the mountains and the sea.
The promenade in Grange-over-Sands is one of the main attractions. It’s beautifully maintained and stretches along the coast, offering benches to sit and take in the stunning views of Morecambe Bay. It’s perfect for a leisurely walk with your dog.
While the beach is more mudflat than a sandy shore, the coastal views are good, especially at low tide when the vast expanse of the bay is revealed.
Adjacent to the promenade, you’ll find well-kept parks and gardens where you and your dog can enjoy a pleasant stroll.
Access and Facilities
The town has various parking options, and you have a footbridge to take you over the railway line to the car-free promenade.
Grange-over-Sands has a number of cafes and pubs where you can enjoy a meal or a drink.
