About
Severn Trent runs Carsington Water and sits between Ashbourne and Matlock. The reservoir was completed in 1991 and covers 300 hectares (741 acres) and reaches a depth of 31 metres.
Three walking trails around the site allow a visit of a few hours or half a day: a 1-mile, 3-mile and an 8-mile full reservoir circuit walk. Maps are available from the main reception desk.
Dog Access and Rules
Dogs are allowed at Carsington Water, although they are not permitted in the restaurant or other food outlets, but are welcome on the balcony area and other outdoor seating.
Access and Facilities
It’s easy enough to reach, and there’s a visitor centre, car park (charges apply), shop, cafe, picnic areas, marked walking trails, cycle hire, and, of course, the water.
