1. Paignton Beach
Paignton Beach is the town’s most popular and bustling stretch of sand, although dogs are not permitted during the summer months. This long, sandy beach is perfect for families, offering safe swimming waters, lifeguards during the summer, and plenty of amenities. The nearby Paignton Pier adds to the charm, featuring amusement arcades, rides, and food stalls. Enjoy a stroll along the promenade, build sandcastles with the kids, or dip in the gentle waves.
2. Preston Sands
Preston Sands is another family favourite just a short walk north of Paignton Beach. Known for its colourful beach huts lining the promenade, this sandy beach offers a more relaxed atmosphere. The beach has ample space for sunbathing, playing sports, or simply unwinding by the sea. With rock pools to explore at low tide and several nearby cafes, outside of the restricted months, it’s a quieter spot than Paignton Beach, making it ideal for a peaceful outing with your dog.
3. Goodrington Sands
Goodrington Sands is divided into two sections: North Sands and South Sands. This beach is particularly popular with water sports enthusiasts. The calm waters are perfect for paddleboarding, kayaking, and pedal boating. Although North Sands has seasonal restrictions, the South Sands is dog-friendly all year, perfect for water-loving dogs, offering calm waters for a splash and plenty of space to run around. Dog-Friendly Policies
Paignton has two of six beaches that allow dogs all year round, Elberry Cove and Goodrington North Sands.
Between the 1st of May and the 30th of September, dogs are not allowed on Paignton Beach, Preston Sands, Goodrington South Sands, Hollicombe Beach, and Broadsands Beach.
