About
The Crichton Estate was once a purpose built and world renowned mental health hospital. Patients were treated on wards at the Crichton until 2012, when a new purpose built hospital was opened just outside the Crichton grounds.
Today, the sandstone buildings serve a range of businesses from charities to nurseries, as well as the University of Glasgow Dumfries campus.
Dog Access and Rules
There are plenty of bins dotted around for disposal.
What's On Offer
There are a number of cafes on the estate, and Neuro’s Spa is accessed via the Bistro at the far side of the Easterbrook Hall. The grounds are beautiful. There is a garden that was built by former patients of the Crichton Royal Hospital. There is also a veterans garden that is open to the public with a small cafe. The Crichton Church is a beautiful imposing building worth seeing.
Things To See & Do
Dumfries is a small, former wool town, and is the final resting place of the Great Baird, Robert Burns. You can visit his mausoleum, located in the graveyard of St. Michael’s Church, and his house on Burns Street.
There are many lovely walks through the streets and parks of the town and surrounding area.
Access and Facilities
The grounds are slightly hilly. There is plenty of parking and a large car park situated opposite the Easterbrook Hall. There are paved paths that criss cross the grounds. Be aware that slow traffic also flows through the grounds.
