Threave Garden and Nature Reserve near Castle Douglas, Dumfries and Galloway is a beautiful dog-friendly estate managed by the National Trust for Scotland.
Dog Access and Rules
Dogs are welcome in most Threave Garden & Nature Reserve areas if they’re on a lead. However, they are prohibited in the Walled Garden, Kelton Hill Wood, and the play area.
Things To See & Do
Stroll through the stunning gardens with seasonal flowers, beautiful sculptures, and water features. The nature reserve also has longer trails that offer lovely views of the surrounding countryside and are perfect for a longer walk with your dog.
Threave is known for its rich wildlife, including osprey viewing points and wetland areas where you might spot otters, ducks, and other animals. Be mindful in these areas to keep your dog calm and on a lead to avoid disturbing the wildlife.
Access and Facilities
Threave Garden is just off the A75 and is well-signposted from every direction.
The nature reserve is open all year round, while the garden, cafe, visitor centre, and shop have seasonal opening times.
