Things To See & Do
Dhoon is a sandy beach within Kirkcudbright Bay, also known as Nun Mill Bay which it looks out to. The beach slopes gently into the water, making it a great swimming beach, although it all but disappears at high tide.
The beach has some interesting rocks, is backed by grass areas, and is surrounded by trees. At low tide, in addition to some great swimming, you can explore some rocks and even see a shipwreck.
The wreck is of the schooner Monreith of Wigtown, which was wrecked in Kirkcudbright Bay on November 12, 1900. You need to be careful when going to the wreck, as the beach turns from compact sand to mud flats.
Access and Facilities
There is a small car park near Dhoon Beach, but the final access to the beach involves a steep path that may not be suitable for all visitors.
Since Dhoon Beach is quite secluded with no facilities, be sure to bring all necessary supplies, including water for you and your dog, a bowl, snacks, and waste bags.
