About
Bridlington, located on the East Yorkshire coast, offers a fantastic combination of lively seaside charm and scenic beaches, making it a great spot to visit with your dog. Bridlington’s beaches are divided into two main areas: Bridlington North Beach and Bridlington South Beach. Whether you’re looking for long walks along the shoreline, peaceful paddling in the sea, or just some quiet time on the sand, Bridlington has a variety of dog-friendly beaches to enjoy. Before visiting Bridlington’s beaches with your dog, here’s everything you need to know.
Dog Access and Rules
Both beaches are beautiful and spacious, but there are some seasonal dog restrictions marked by clear signage:
- Bridlington North Beach (north of the harbour): between 1 May and 30 September, dogs are banned from the main beach, but if you head away from the main area, you can access the beach from the coastguard station.
- Bridlington South Beach (south of the harbour): dogs are prohibited from 1 May to 30 September. However, they can roam freely on the beach beyond the promenade area, Wilsthorpe Beach, which provides plenty of space for dog-friendly adventures.
Outside of the peak summer season, both beaches are fully open to dogs, offering long stretches of sand for them to explore.
Things To See & Do
Bridlington North Beach: This beach has a pebbly texture mixed with sand and is quieter than the South Beach. It offers beautiful views of Bridlington’s Old Town, Flamborough Head, and the surrounding cliffs. North Beach is perfect for dog owners seeking a more peaceful and scenic experience in the peak season.
Bridlington South Beach: With its golden sands, South Beach is livelier and stretches for miles. This beach is perfect for long walks, and even during the restricted summer months, there’s plenty of space further along the shoreline where your dog can enjoy the sand and sea. South Beach also has a more vibrant atmosphere, with nearby attractions like cafes and family activities.
Both beaches have lovely promenade areas where you and your dog can walk on a lead and take in the fresh sea air.
The North and South beaches are part of a long stretch of sand, great for long, scenic walks. During the quieter seasons, you can stroll uninterrupted with your dog, enjoying the sea views and watching the tides. With its flat sandy stretches, South Beach is perfect for a longer walk, while North Beach offers a more rugged, pebbly shoreline.
If you’re up for an adventure, head towards Flamborough Head (north of Bridlington) for excellent coastal walks with stunning sea views. These areas offer a mix of clifftop paths, grassy areas, and woodlands, giving you and your dog plenty to explore beyond the beach.
