About
Mappleton Beach is located on the Holderness Coast in East Yorkshire, just a couple of miles south of Hornsea. This peaceful stretch of coastline is known for its dramatic cliffs made of soft clay, a reminder of its constant battle with the sea. The area is one of the fastest-eroding coastlines in Europe, which has shaped its unique landscape over centuries. Despite the erosion, it remains a beloved spot for dog owners, offering a glimpse into the raw beauty of nature.
Dog Access and Rules
One of the best things about Mappleton Beach is that it welcomes dogs all year round, with no restrictions. This makes it an ideal place for your furry friend to enjoy freedom – whether splashing in the shallow waves, digging in the soft sand, or simply sniffing around for treasures washed up by the tide.
Things To See & Do
The expansive beach is perfect for a long walk with your dog. The Holderness Coast is rich in fossils, and combining your dog walk with beachcombing is a great way to enjoy it.
Mappleton Beach is part of a continuous stretch of Yorkshire beaches. A good walk starts at Hornsea and proceeds south to Mappleton. You can stop for tea and cake and then head back.
Access and Facilities
Getting to Mappleton Beach is straightforward. There’s a small car park right by the beach, located next to the cliffs, which is convenient for visitors. The car park is relatively small and can become full, and with no other parking options, this always makes the beach feel empty. A short path leads directly down to the sand from the car park.
Mappleton Beach is fairly simple in terms of facilities: a hard-surfaced free car park, toilets, and tea rooms set back a little from the beach.
The nearby village of Hornsea offers plenty of options, including cafes, shops, and pubs.
