About
Hampstead Heath is one of London’s most beloved green spaces, with 790 acres of fields, woodlands, and stunning views over the city. It’s a paradise for dogs and their owners, offering plenty of space to explore, play, and relax.
Dog Access and Rules
Hampstead Heath is extremely dog-friendly, with large areas where dogs can roam off-lead. Your dog must always be under your control, and if it can’t respond to a call, you must keep it on a lead.
Things To See & Do
Hampstead Heath is located in North London, stretching from Hampstead to Highgate. It’s steeped in history, dating back to the Middle Ages when it was common land. Over the centuries, the Heath has grown into a cherished natural escape for Londoners, known for its wild beauty and famous landmarks, such as Kenwood House and the scenic Parliament Hill, offering one of the city’s best panoramic views.
The Heath has an extensive network of trails; you can enjoy long scenic walks through woodlands, meadows, and open fields. Dogs love running up Parliament Hill (98 metres, 322 ft high), in the southeast corner of the Heath, where you can enjoy the stunning view of London’s skyline.
If your dog enjoys swimming, there are designated areas where they can splash around. After a walk, you can also stop by one of the dog-friendly cafes around the Heath.
Access and Facilities
Hampstead Heath is easy to reach by public transport. The nearest tube stations are Hampstead and Belsize Park on the Northern Line, and Gospel Oak on the Overground is right next to the Heath. Numerous bus routes also serve the area. If you’re driving, parking facilities are nearby, but spaces can be limited, especially on weekends.
Several cafes, including Kenwood House Cafe and The Parliament Hill Cafe, offer refreshments for you and allow dogs in their outdoor seating areas. There are also public toilets scattered around the Heath, including accessible facilities.
