Dog Access and Rules
While dogs aren’t allowed inside Kenwood House, the surrounding gardens and woodlands are wonderfully dog-friendly. Your dog can join you on the lead as you explore the expansive lawns, scenic paths, and picturesque landscapes around the house.

Kenwood House is located on the northern boundary of Hampstead Heath, easily accessible from the Heath’s network of trails. This beautiful neoclassical mansion dates back to the early 17th century and was redesigned in the 18th century by the renowned architect Robert Adam. It houses an impressive art collection, including works by Vermeer, Rembrandt, and Gainsborough, and is managed by English Heritage.
While the interiors of Kenwood House are off-limits to dogs, the external beauty of the building and the surrounding gardens are a real treat. The grounds blend carefully designed gardens and more natural woodland, perfect for a peaceful walk with your dog.
You can follow the various trails around the house, through the woods, and down to Hampstead Heath’s lakes. The South Terrace offers stunning views across the Heath, and the wide-open spaces around the house are great for a peaceful wander.
If you want a break, the Kenwood House Cafe has outdoor seating where dogs are welcome. You can relax with a coffee or snack while enjoying the views of the house and gardens.
Access and Facilities
Kenwood House is easily accessible from Hampstead Heath. If walking from the Heath, follow the northern trails towards Highgate. The nearest tube stations are Hampstead and Highgate on the Northern Line, with buses also serving the area. If you’re driving, parking is available at Kenwood House but can fill up quickly.
The Kenwood House Cafe allows dogs in the outdoor seating area and is a lovely place to stop for refreshments. Dog water bowls are available outside the cafes.
Public toilets are available on-site, including accessible facilities.
