About
Chorlton Water Park is a local nature reserve located south of Manchester. It was created from a disused gravel pit used in the building of the M60 motorway and has since transformed into a stunning green space. The park centres around a large lake surrounded by trees, grass areas, and the River Mersey. It’s a peaceful spot that feels miles away from Manchester’s urban environment, making it a great place to escape with your dog.
The circular path around the lake is about one mile and perfect for a dog walk, offering water views. While dogs should be kept on a lead near the lake and picnic areas, the surrounding fields and river provide plenty of space for your dog to run and play off-lead.
If you want longer walks, you can join the River Mersey on the park’s south side and head in either direction.
Dog Access and Rules
Chorlton Water Park is dog-friendly, allowing dogs to roam off-lead, but remember to keep your dog under control, especially around the lake and picnic areas where children and wildlife are present. Waste bins are provided, so clean up after your dog to keep the park pleasant for everyone.
Access and Facilities
Chorlton Water Park is easily accessible by car, just off the M60 motorway (Junction 5 or 6). A car park is on-site, so parking isn’t an issue. If you’re using public transport, several buses from Manchester city centre stop nearby, and the closest tram stop is Barlow Moor Road on the Metrolink. From there, it’s a short walk to the park.
Facilities are limited to car parking, public toilets, and some picnic areas. You may be lucky to have an ice cream van.
