About
Located in North Manchester, Heaton Park covers over 600 acres, is one of the largest municipal parks in Europe and offers endless opportunities for you and your dog to explore, relax, and enjoy nature together.
Dog-Friendly Policies
Heaton Park is dog-friendly, welcoming dogs to roam and enjoy the vast green spaces. While much of the park is open for off-lead walking, keeping your dog on a lead near busy areas is essential. Dogs are allowed in most areas of the park, but please remember to clean up after your dog and use the waste bins provided to keep the park clean for all visitors.
Things To See & Do
At the park’s heart stands Heaton Hall, a Grade I listed building with limited open days and no dogs allowed inside. However, the park’s natural charm lies in its blend of beautiful gardens, open meadows, and woodlands. Over the years, the park has become a much-loved recreational space for dog owners.
Heaton Park has a variety of walking routes to suit different abilities. You and your dog can enjoy gentle strolls through the formal gardens or longer walks around the large open fields and woodlands. Some park areas are perfect for off-lead play, where your dog can run and socialise with other dogs.
Access and Facilities
Heaton Park is easily accessible from Manchester city centre. There is ample parking available for those driving to the park, with several car parks around the park’s edges. For public transport, the Heaton Park Metrolink stop is right next to the main entrance, making it a convenient option for visitors.
Facilities at the park include public toilets and cafes. You also have kid’s playgrounds and sporting facilities, but these are off-limits to dogs.

Harry
Great walk around the lake and park, easily accessible via tram stop as didn’t have a car.
