The main beach is shingle, which naturally slows the pace and encourages a steady, thoughtful walk. It’s not the place for charging miles, but it’s ideal for sniff-heavy wandering.
The promenade adds an easy, flat alternative if the beach feels tiring underfoot, and it links neatly with village paths and cafes. On clear days, the views across to the Isle of Wight.
You can keep things short or easily build this into a longer coastal walk, depending on energy levels.
You have a couple of longer walk options. To head eastwards towards Hurst Castle or head west towards Barton on Sea along the coast path with some great cliff-top views.
Access and Facilities
You have multiple car parks available: Horde Cliff West, Paddy’s Gap, and Hurst Road East.
There are several cafes and pubs with outdoor seating where dogs are genuinely welcome, making it easy to plan a slow lunch or coffee stop without hovering or rushing.
