About
Nomansland Common sits on the edge of Wheathampstead and Sandridge in Hertfordshire, just north of St. Albans. It’s a mix of open grassland and scrubby bits, with patches of trees.
There’s no one right way to explore Nomansland. The ground’s mostly flat, and in the early mornings, you sometimes get mist hanging over the grass. In spring and summer, it turns colourful with wildflowers and bees buzzing about. Dogs love it.
If you walk long enough, you can connect up with Heartwood Forest trails or even swing back through Sandridge for a pub stop.
Dog-Friendly Policies
Dogs are welcome all year round at Nomansland Common. No lead rules unless you’re near horses or livestock. It’s a shared space. If your dog is one of those barky types or a bit jumpy around kids, be aware that it is also used by families and joggers.
Access and Facilities
There is parking available off Ferrers Lane. It fills up fast on sunny weekends, but midweek you’ll get a space no problem.
Buses from St Albans or Wheathampstead stop nearby. The roads are a bit narrow, so if you’re walking in from the village, keep your dog close till you’re on the open land.
You have no facilities, but there are some dog-friendly pub options in Wheathampstead and Sandridge.
