About
If you and your dog love long walks on white sandy beaches with stunning coastal views, then Calgary Beach on the Isle of Mull is ideal. Located on the island’s northwest coast, this picturesque beach combines natural beauty with a laid-back atmosphere, making it perfect for dogs and their owners.
Dog-Friendly Policies
Calgary Beach is dog-friendly, welcoming four-legged friends to enjoy its wide, sandy shore and surrounding areas. There are no seasonal restrictions, meaning you can bring your dog along any time of year, allowing them to run freely and splash in the waves. However, as with all natural beauty spots, respecting other visitors, sheep, and wildlife is essential, and you may need to put your dog on a lead.
Things To See & Do
Calgary Beach is part of Calgary Bay, a peaceful, crescent-shaped stretch of sand bordered by rugged hills and the stunning blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean. The name “Calgary” itself means “clear running water” in Gaelic and is believed to have inspired the naming of Calgary in Canada.
In the 19th century, the area was part of a large estate, and remnants of this history can still be seen today in the castle (now acommodation) and surrounding woodlands.
Calgary’s soft, white sands stretch for nearly a mile, giving your dog plenty of space to run, play, and explore. The beach is perfect for a stroll or an energetic game of fetch, and the shallow waters are ideal for dogs that love a paddle.
If you’re in the mood for a more extended adventure, there are several scenic walking trails around Calgary Bay. One popular route is the Calgary Art in Nature Trail, which weaves through nearby woodland and features sculptures and artworks.
Calgary Bay is home to various wildlife, including birds, seals, and occasionally otters. While walking along the shore or nearby headlands, you and your dog may spot some of these local creatures. Remember to keep your dog on a lead when wildlife is nearby to avoid disturbing them.
