About
The Fairy Pools on the Isle of Skye is perfect for a dog walk. Located in Glenbrittle at the foot of the Black Cuillin mountains, these pools are a series of waterfalls and streams in a stunning location.
Dog Access and Rules
Fairy Pools is a natural landscape and has no dog restrictions. However, keeping your dog on a lead is advised, as it can get very busy with other walkers, and sheep are often grazing nearby.
Things To See & Do
The Fairy Pools are on the west coast of Skye, near the village of Carbost. Mountain streams feed these pools, which become part of the River Brittle. People visit for the charm, but this was the location of one of the last and bloodiest clan battles in 1601.
Your dog will love the walk to the Fairy Pools, which is around 2.4 km (1.5 miles) each way. The path follows the river and crosses small streams, so expect your dog to enjoy splashing in the shallow waters. This is not just about walking to the pools and back; you need time to work up the river and explore all the pools, and don’t forget the photo opportunities.
The brave may take a dip into the pools, but they can be very cold, so if you are one of those people, a wetsuit may be a good thing to bring with you.
Access and Facilities
The Fairy Pools are a short drive from the village of Carbost. There is a car park at the start of the trail, and the walk is straightforward on a gravel path with a few bridges.
There are no toilets or cafes at the Fairy Pools, so you must bring everything you and your dog might need. The nearest facilities are in Carbost, where you’ll also find dog-friendly cafes and pubs for a bite to eat after your walk. Alternatively, you have a cafe and shop at the campsite by Glenbrittle Beach.
