About
Talisker Bay is located on the western side of the Isle of Skye, near the small village of Talisker, from which it takes its name. The beach is framed by steep cliffs and a waterfall, creating a striking, secluded atmosphere. The bay is known for its black sand and large rock formations, resulting from the volcanic activity that shaped much of Skye’s landscape.
Dog Access and Rules
Talisker Bay Beach is dog-friendly all year round. While dogs are welcome to roam the beach, they should be kept on a lead, especially near the cliffs and in areas where wildlife might be present.
Things To See & Do
The Talisker name is also famous for the Talisker Distillery, located nearby and one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland.
The most popular activity at Talisker Bay Beach is a simple, refreshing walk along the shore. The beach’s dark sand and shingle mix provides an exciting texture underfoot (and paw). Your dog will love sniffing around the rocks and running along the open spaces.
At the far end of the bay, you’ll find a stunning waterfall cascading down the cliffs, a must-see for visitors. Dogs love splashing about in the shallows near the waterfall, so bring a towel if your dog is likely to dive in!
Access and Facilities
Talisker Bay Beach is accessible via a short walk from a parking area near the village of Talisker. From the car park, it’s a gentle 1.5-mile walk through farmland and along a scenic path leading directly to the beach. The path is relatively easy to navigate and suitable for most dogs, though it can be muddy after rain, so waterproof boots are a good idea.
The nearest town is Carbost, which is about a 10-minute drive away. Carbost is also home to the Talisker Distillery, which could make an exciting stop before or after your beach visit, although dogs are not allowed on the tour.
The beach is remote, so bring snacks, water, and supplies.
