About
Groby Pool is located on the southern edge of Charnwood Forest and is thought to be the largest natural expanse of open water in Leicestershire, covering 38 acres (15 ha). Groby Pool and the surrounding area are of great ecological importance and contain a wide range of plants and wildfowl.
Dog Access and Rules
Groby Pool has a quiet kind of charm. It’s not a huge place, but the moment you wander onto the lakeside path, you feel a little ease settle in. The water stretches out in front of you, birds fly in and out, and your dog is already taking in all the new scents along the edge of the path. It’s simple, peaceful, and precisely the sort of spot you head to when you want a gentle walk without any fuss.
You will need to keep your dog on a lead as you have many birds and you are close to the road.
Things To See & Do
You can’t actually walk around the pool, only the eastern edge by the road is accessible. The pool is worth a visit, but I would recommend being part of a longer walk.
You can include the pool in a walk from or to Bradgate Park and even stop off for a pint at the Bradgate pub. This would be between 2 and 4 miles, depending on the route taken.
Access and Facilities
Free car park on Newtown Linford Lane to the south of the pool.
