About
Moira Furnace sits in North West Leicestershire, right on the edge of the National Forest. It’s a mix of heritage industry and calm countryside with a canal running through. Moira Furnace is a blast furnace that produced iron from 1806 and is now restored as a museum.
It’s a peaceful stroll along the Ashby Canal towpath, leisurely and good underfoot. You get the trees on one side and the water on the other, and there are boats moored up now and again. If you keep walking past the museum, the path links up with the National Forest trails.
If you don’t want to walk, then you can take a boat trip in a heritage narrowboat along the canal.
Dog Access and Rules
Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome around the museum, country park and on the narrowboat trips.
