About
Located on the outskirts of Ibstock, south of Coalville, Sence Valley Forest Park is an excellent example of making a modern forest from our industrial past. Once a coal mine that closed in 1996, the area is now mostly forest, water, and quiet. If you’re after somewhere to walk the dog that’s peaceful, off the radar, and doesn’t feel too polished, then Sence Valley is one for you.
Dog Access and Rules
Dogs are allowed off-lead through most of the park, although you must keep them under close control.
Things To See & Do
It’s not flashy, but Sence Valley is full of gentle paths that loop around three lakes, making it a bird-spotter’s paradise. The River Sence flows through the middle of the park, and as you would expect, there is also a lot of lovely woodland to explore. In summer, the paths get that dusty, dry feeling under your boots, and your dog’s belly ends up coated in dust. During the winter, some woodland paths can become muddy, and your dog’s belly can get matted with mud.
Access and Facilities
The park is easily accessible by car, with the main entrance located just off the A447. Local bus routes from the surrounding area stop just a short walk from the main entrance.
You have a small cafe in the car park that serves takeaway hot and cold drinks and food. The cafe is not open every day, so check their Facebook Page.
