About
Hightown Beach is nestled along the Merseyside coast, just a short distance from the village of Hightown. This tranquil stretch of coastline offers panoramic views across the Irish Sea and, on a clear day, glimpses of the Wirral Peninsula.
The beach is part of the Sefton Coast, a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) due to its rich biodiversity. Historically, Hightown served as a fishing and farming community, but its coastal beauty has made it a serene retreat for nature lovers and dog walkers alike.
Dog Access and Rules
Hightown Beach is dog-friendly, welcoming four-legged visitors throughout the year.
Things To See & Do
This peaceful beach is between Liverpool and Formby on the Merseyside coast, offering miles of open sand and stunning views. The expansive sands at low tide make this beach ideal for long strolls. Whether your dog loves running ahead or sticking close by your side, they’ll adore the open space.
The Alt estuary marks the beach’s north boundary, but we recommend walking south and exploring the beach and dunes down towards Crosby. The dunes that back the beach are great for curious pups to sniff around. Just be mindful of any signs indicating sensitive areas, especially near wildlife habitats.
As you pass the Blundellsands Sailing Club, you should be able to spot tree trunks and roots, which are part of an ancient submerged forest.
Access and Facilities
Parking is difficult, but Merseyrail Station Hightown has regular services connecting Liverpool and Southport. The station is just a 10-minute walk from the beach.
Hightown Beach is a natural, unspoiled stretch of coastline, so facilities are minimal. This only adds to its charm as a peaceful retreat.
